Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, and YSRCP Chief, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, made headlines when he announced his plan of three capitals for Andhra Pradesh, thereby making Amaravati as the sole capital of AP no more effective. Ever since then, the farmers of Amaravati have been protesting in the state, against the CM’s decision, and even filed petitions in the High Court.
The Amaravati farmers are currently staging a Maha Padayatra, from Amaravati to Tirupati, on November 1st, demanding that the government make Amaravati the sole capital of AP. While the opposition parties are supporting the farms, the ruling party has kept silent. YSRCP Legislative Assembly member from Nellore Rural, K. Sridhar Reddy, has become the first YSRCP member to extend his support to the farmers.
He said that the farmers can call upon him in case they need any help, but refused to raise the slogan ‘Jai Amaravati’, saying that he isn’t supposed to be doing that. On the other hand, the event was organised by Amaravati Parirakshana Samithi and Amaravati Joint Action Committee (JAC), and the farmers are scheduled to reach Tirupati on December 15.
