The two policemen were suspended for beating up and tonsuring a Dalit man in a police station on Sunday night. They did this inhumane thing to the Dalit youth, named I. Varaprasad for confronting the ruling local YSRCP leader.
On YCP leader’s complained they took the youth to the police station for a petty argument and beat him up severely before tonsuring him. Prasad has been sent to the local hospital for medical treatment. Prasad told local reporters that he and two others had stopped the movement of sand trucks through the lane of residence where a death has happened.
Allegedly, Krishna Murthy, a former sarpanch, arrived there in his car and was angered by the youth for stopping the trucks. Allegedly the car hit Varaprasad even though he said to wait for some time till the body was moved from the place for final rites.
“The issue seems to have ended in the night but, in the morning, a SI and two constables came to my village and took me and two others in the name of investigation. The SI Kicked me indiscriminately with the belt and kicked me. Later he called a barber to tonsure my head and chop off my moustache. Even my mother came and pleaded to spare me but I was beaten and dumped in the room infront of her.”
After protests by local Dalit organizations, Deputy Superintendent of Police PSN Rao conducted an inquiry into the incident, which led to the suspensions. A sub-inspector and a constable were placed under suspension and were also booked under the SC, ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act, along with various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Now, the local people are bewildered as only the Police were suspended and the local YSRCP leader was spared from the issue, who is the reason for all this ruckus. “CM Jagan ordered for stringent action on the Police, but what about the local YSRP leader who couldn’t respect a dead body and made a Dalit youth to get tonsured?” The locals are asking.
