It is a known fact that Indian women defence personnel are not allowed to be admitted to the National Defence Academy (NDA). But, this is going to be changed now.
In a historic moment for women defence personnel, the Central Government has given its nod to allow women to be admitted to NDA. The Centre informed the Supreme Court today that the three services chiefs – Army, IAF and Navy – have agreed to give Permanent Commission to women and their entry into NDA, Naval academies.
“It is a delight to share this…The girls will be admitted in the NDA,” Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati told the Supreme Court.
“We do hope that defence forces value the important role women are performing. We want them to take a proactive approach in gender-based roles rather than courts to intervene,” the Supreme Court said.
Meanwhile, the Centre urged the apex court to exempt women entry in this year’s admission process, citing the requirement of infrastructural changes.
