In a bizarre incident, Tamil Nadu RTO officials denied to consider the women, who came to give their driving test in jeans. Reacting to the issue, the RTO official said that the rule is not only for women, but also the men. Even men will be rejected if they attend the driving test in shorts or lungis.
The official stressed that it is not a moral policing, but only an advice to follow, as different kinds of people attend the driving test. He reminded that the rule is necessary, only to avoid any untoward incident.
In Chennai’s KK Nagar office, a female software engineer, was sent back home, when she attended the driving test in jeans and a sleeveless top. Another woman, in a similar incident was rejected for wearing “Capri jeans”.

The incidents of this sort are not new in Chennai. Not only in case of women, but also few men who attended the driving test in lungis and shorts in 2018, were allowed for the test, only after they changed their attires.
Meanwhile, the netizens are lashing out at the RTO officials for such kind of bizarre rules. Most of them are arguing that, it is acceptable, if shorts or lungis are disallowed for men, as such attires show the non serious approach. But there is no logic in rejecting the jeans for women, as it has become casual in the modern days. They are arguing that the RTO officials are obstructing a woman’s freedom.
