Uddhav Thackeray, of the Shiv Sena Party, announced his resignation as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra earlier today, on Wednesday, ahead of the floor test to be conducted tomorrow. The Supreme Court rejected Thackeray’s plea to stay the floor test orders tomorrow, and given that rejection, Thackeray informed through his Facebook live today, that he felt it was better to resign now than to go and oppose the floor test tomorrow, which would result in a blood bath.
Earlier today, in the evening, the last cabinet meeting of the Thackeray government took place, under the leadership of Thackeray as the Chief Minister. In the meeting, the cabinet took the decision to rename Aurangabad and Osmanabad as Sambhajinagar and Dharasiv.
The cabinet also took the decision to rename the Navi Mumbai airport as DB Patil International airport. Thackeray informed the same to those who watched his Facebook live today.
