It’s well-known that India has banned the export of drugs to other countries. However, President Donald Trump has appealed Prime minister to continue releasing drug export exclusively to America.
The recent hype about Hydrochloroquine, being a likely treatment for corona virus has attracted the attention of US government to consider it as a standard corona medicine. ”I called PM of India. They make large amounts of Hydrochloroquine and give it a serious consideration.” said Trump at a press conference at the White house on Saturday.
On March 25th, India’s Directorate General of Foreign Trade banned the export of Hydrochloroquine but said that certain shipments can be exported on humanitarian grounds after thorough analysis. With more than three lakh confirmed cases of coronavirus infection and over 8,000 mortalities, the US is reportedly the worst sufferers of the deadly Covid-19 virus.
Based on some good results, Trump administration relied largely on Hydrochloroquine, which is an anti malarial drug used for the treatment of fever and body pains. After US Food and Drug Administration gave a nod, the malarial drug, along with a combination of other drug is being applied in the treatment of 1500 corona patients in New York.
US has already stockpiled 29 million of doses as it has observed that many other countries, which administer Hydrochloroquine for malaria have suffered less from Corona virus. A mass scale production of drug doses is required to combat the deadly virus in the US. Hence, Trump with an anticipation for a likely cure, said he would appreciate if India could export the required amount of doses.
