People are currently struggling to buy essential commodities under the existing lockdown situation. The government permits people to shop at home from morning to evening, however those who cross the main roads face difficulties.
There are incidents where the police stop them and disallow them. This has led to many issues and many broke the barriers set by police and went on to buy vegetables at Raithu bazar. So the Government has announced to supply directly to home.
However, if goods are sent home, people can gather there, so the government is looking at alternative ways to control congestion and finally decided to send vegetable to the colonies as many did not follow the social distancing at Raithu bazaar.
Therefore, the state marketing department planned to introduce mobile vegetable vehicles in major cities and towns across the state.
Around 200 to 300 vehicles are to be used for this purpose. Farmers in the Raithu Bazaars were permitted to go and sell in these vehicles to the surrounding colonies. Plans are afoot to move these vehicles every two to three days.
Locals are informed in advance of when vegetables will arrive and the matter was also discussed at the State Price Stabilization Committee meeting. On the other hand, state marketing department also estimated that 27 lakh tons of vegetables will be sufficient for hassle free supply.
