The Bharatiya Janata Party and the Telugu Desam Party enjoyed a good alliance with each other, which further grew when the TDP came to power in Andhra Pradesh and the BJP came to power at the Centre, in 2014. However, things drastically changed in the lead up to the 2019 elections, when TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu cut off ties with the BJP, and joined with the Congress party, even campaigning against the BJP.
Now, Chandrababu has been very openly seeking an alliance with the BJP yet again, but the BJP hasn’t been showing any interest in him. The comments he made against PM Narendra Modi, ahead of the 2019 elections are not likely to be forgiven by the party leadership, according to strong sources, which only means that the BJP and YSRCP alliance would continue in 2024 as well.
It is now being said that the BJP’s main agenda is to wipe out the TDP and Chandrababu from Andhra Pradesh, which would cement the position of BJP in the state, as the TDP is the main opposition in AP. Given that the BJP is also allied with the Jana Sena, only the TDP remains the odd one out, and it is now to be seen how well the BJP will be able to succeed in wiping out the TDP from AP.
