Almost every politician that has been elected Speaker of the Assembly so far, in united Andhra Pradesh, and in the bifurcated Telugu states, has not been able to win an election after becoming a speaker. This is a common sentiment that is carried around, and believed in strongly, by all Telugu politicians.
The best examples for this remain Pratibha Bharati and Nadendla Manohar, who couldn’t win the election after having served as the Speaker. Even Kiran Kumar Reddy, who served as the Speaker for the united Andhra Pradesh Assembly, and later on went on to become the CM of the state, after the demise of YSR, wasn’t even to be seen anywhere in the 2014 elections. Madhusudanachary, who served as the first speaker of the Telangana state, lost the 2018 elections and hasn’t been seen in active politics ever since. Kodela Sivaprasad, the first speaker of the bifurcated Andhra Pradesh state, lost in the 2019 elections, and later passed away under unfortunate circumstances. A similar sentiment is followed for those who become Endowments Ministers as well.
Now, Tammineni Sitaram, the speaker of the Andhra Pradesh assembly, is reportedly looking to step down from the post of the speaker, as he wants to be a part of active politics, and because he reportedly is afraid of this sentiment. Tammineni was a minister during the 1999-2004 period, and has ever since been shifting parties, and has finally won in the 2019 elections.
