Amid speculations that Suresh Raina will join Chennai Super Kings in the forthcoming edition of the Indian Premier League, the star cricketer has surprised everyone by announcing his retirement from all forms of cricket, including IPL.
Taking to his official Twitter account, Mr Raina thanked the BCCI, the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association, Chennai Super Kings, BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla and the cricket fans for their support throughout his cricketing journey.
“It has been an absolute honour to represent my country & state UP. I would like to announce my retirement from all formats of Cricket. I would like to thank @BCCI, @UPCACricket, @ChennaiIPL, @ShuklaRajiv sir & all my fans for their support and unwavering faith in my abilities,” Raina tweeted.
Raina, who is also called Mr IPL, was part of 4-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings. He also led Gujarat Lions in 2016 and 2017 when CSK was under ban. However, the 35-year-old went unsold in the auction earlier in 2022.
For the unversed, Raina retired from international cricket on August 15, 2020 – the same day when former India skipper MS Dhoni announced his retirement.
