In June this year, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had visited the United States of America. During this visit, it was said by the White House that the government plans to make the process of renewal of work visas easier for those living in the USA under those visas. While this process is aimed at making the process easier for everyone under that category, it is especially aimed towards Indians.
This program is now finally set to take off, with a pilot program set to be carried out in December, which is expected to benefit a significantly large number of Indian technology professionals. Julie Stufft, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Visa Services said that the government aims to make the process much easier for Indians, as the wait time for the renewal of these visas could be anywhere between six months and one year, currently. Beginning in December, the State Department is expected to issue 20,000 visas to foreign nationals who are already inside the country, over a period of three months.
This move is only going to benefit those who are already working in the USA with work visas, or H1-B visas. Those in the USA with other visas do not come under this category, and the process of renewing their visas will remain the same even after this program is implemented. It is to be noted that this is indeed going to be a highly beneficial move for a large number of Indians currently working in the USA.
