In order to amp up the bulk production on large scale, a vaccine created by Pune’s Serum institute is at present being developed at Pune’s Naidu Hospital, on Sunday. The vaccine is being tried alongside an Ayurvedic formula. The vaccine has been created with the assistance of the American biotech organisation Codagenix and Serum is all set to complete stage 3 clinical trials of the vaccine. It’s only left out for testing in post marketing surveillance, which would be the fourth stage in monitoring its safety after market release.
Adar Poonawalla, the CEO of the Serum Institute, speaks to a news agency to not highly anticipate for lightning fast solutions. He said that their firm had teamed up with Dr Hill from Oxford University to manufacture three covid-19 vaccines. It aimed to produce five million doses per month for the initial 6 months, succeeding which, they planned to increase the production to 10 million doses per month.
The vaccine is made from a weakened version of a common cold adenovirus collected from chimps and genetically altered to make it difficult to infect humans. Serum institute added that it will not patent any Covid-19 vaccine which it develops, with a motto to make it available globally.
However, Poonawalla says high risk populations as per covid-19 norms ought to be vigilant and follow all precautions over the next 2-3 years. In an interview with a news reporters digitally, Poonawalla said, “For another two or three months, I would urge everyone to completely ignore any vaccine news that comes out.” He emphasised that all that euphoria or hype from companies is about 1st stage of clinical trial and It’s only after Phase 3 trials, the vacccine’s efficacy can be established.
