The Supreme Court today sought the response of the centre and all states on a plea filed over the cancellation of around three crore ration cards due to non-linking with Aadhaar card.
A bench of Chief Justice SA Bobde and justices AS Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian said this issue should not be handled as adversarial as it is “too serious a matter”.
Senior advocate Colin Gonsalves, appearing for petitioner Koili Devi, a woman from Jharkhand, said the plea deals with the bigger issue.
“We see the problem at hand and I have dealt with this kind of matter in Bombay High Court and I think this matter should be filed before the high court concerned,” the CJI said.
“We are asking the Centre to respond because of the Aadhaar issue. This is not adversarial litigation. We will hear it finally. Issue notice returnable in four weeks,” the bench said.
Koili Devi’s 11-year-old Santoshi Kumari was died on September 28, 2017, after craving for four days because her family was not supplied with food as their ration card was not linked with Aadhaar card.
