We all know that the Chief justice in courts will be referred to as ‘Your Honor’. Generally, we see in the movies that lawyers addressing Chief Justice as ‘Your Honor’.
But the Supreme Court recently warned a young lawyer for referring to him as ‘Your Honor’. Chief Justice of the Supreme Court SA Bobde, Justice AS Bopanna, Justice V.S. Dharmasana with Rama Subramaniam reprimanded the young lawyer.
When the young lawyer addressed the CJ as ‘Your Honor’, the CJ commented that he seemed to be on the Supreme Court of America. The youth apologized to the court.
He immediately corrected his words by addressing the CJ as ‘My Lord’ and corrected the mistake. Responding to this, Chief Justice SA Bobde gently warned him not to use inappropriate words.
The incident took place during the trial of a case related to the appointment of subordinates in the judiciary.
