IPL 2020: RR Vs KKR match analysis: KKR kicks RR out of the tournament

After Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab, Rajasthan Royals became the third team to end their campaign in IPL 2020. In a must-win game against Kolkata Knight Riders, RR lost by 60 runs and ended their season on a sad note. The target of 191 seemed too much for RR and none of their batsmen stood up to the occasion. Pat Cummins (4/34) dismantled the batting order of RR. On the batting front, it was Eoin Morgan (68*), Rahul Tripathi (39) and Shumban Gill (36) who have done well for KKR.

After winning the toss, Rajasthan opted to bowl first. They got a stunning start as Jofra Archer dismissed Nitish Rana right in the first over. Then, Shubman Gill and Rahul Tripathi settled the game for KKR by making a partnership of 72 runs. When they were looking deadly, Rahul Tewatia dismissed Gill. In the very same over, he also got the wicket of Sunil Narine. Very soon, RR also got the wickets of Tripathi and Dinesh Karthik as well. When they were in trouble, Morgan came for the rescue. He played a sensational inning with the help of timely support from Andre Russell and Pat Cummins. Thus, KKR managed to score 191/7 in 20 overs.

Rajasthan was never really in the chase as it lost wickets right from the first over. The team’s key batsmen Uthappa, Stokes, Smith, Samson and Riyan Parag got out inside the powerplay itself. They lost half of their side inside the first six overs. Rahul Tewatia and Jos Buttler tried to keep them in the chase but they failed eventually. With the lack of intent from the batsmen, RR ended its innings with a score of 131/9 in 20 overs.

Scorecard:

Kolkata Knight Riders: 191/7 (E Morgan 68*, R Tripathi 39, R Tewatia 3/25)

Rajasthan Royals: 131/9 (J Buttler 35, R Tewatia 31, P Cummins 4/34)
