India opener Rohit Sharma on Wednesday overtook his skipper Virat Kohli in the latest ICC men’s Test Player Rankings. He is now placed fifth, one spot above Kohli on the list.
Apparently, this is the first time since November 2017 that an Indian batsman has dominated Kohli in the rankings. Cheteshwar Pujara was the last one to do it, when he stood second and Kohli fifth.
Rohit Sharma’s brilliant batting display in the third Test helped him to pass Kohli and record his career-best fifth position. The right-handed batsman is seven rating points more than the Indian skipper for an aggregate of 773.
England captain Joe Root’s majestic form in the ongoing World Test Championship series against the visitors has pushed him to reclaim the top spot for batsmen after nearly 6 years.
Meanwhile, the fourth Test between India and England will take place in Oval, starting from Thursday.
