A 20-year girl was brutally killed in broad daylight in Guntur on Sunday. The victim was identified as Ramya Sri, who was studying B.Tech in Guntur and residing in the Old Guntur area.
Andhra Pradesh DGP Gautam Sawang has said that the accused has been arrested. Based on the information given by the locals and with the help of CCTV footage, the police identified the accused and nabbed him.
The DGP said the locals had provided the most crucial information in the investigation of the case. He appealed to the youth to be vigilant towards social media contacts. He warned that harsh punishments would be meted out for assaults on young women and girls. He asked not to look at every incident from a political angle.
The DGP congratulated the Guntur Urban Police for responding immediately to the incident and cracking the case. He made it clear that the protection of women is their first duty and that they would work tirelessly for this.
The accused has been arrested by the police at Pamidipadu in Narasaraopet. During the arrest, the accused attempted suicide. Vigilant police immediately rushed him to a hospital in Narasaraopet for first aid. Later, he was shifted to GGH in Guntur.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy announced Rs 10 lakh compensation to the deceased girl’s family and asked officials to take stringent action on the accused under the ‘Disha’ act.
