One of the most prestigious and expensive projects in the Telugu speaking states, Polavaram, is going on from the past few years. In 2012, Transtroy, a company under TDP leader Rayapati Sambasiva Rao took the contract and completed the project to some extent. Analyzing that it would take lot of time if it gets completely with the current pace, YSRC party came up with the concept of re-tender.
Government estimated the project value to be 4987 Crores and the company MEIL (Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited), who won the contract this time, quoted 4358 Crores. This project is expected to water 7.2 lakh acres of agricultural land apart from generating 960 MW of electricity. Drinking water too will be available to some parts of vital cities of Vijayawada and Vishakapatnam along with 540 small towns and villages due to this project.
It has been almost a decade, the project came into picture. “Will it get completed during the YS Jagan’s government rule?” turned to be an interesting question. MEIL has good track record of completing projects and hence lets hope for the best!
