The Covid-19 vaccination drive in India has commenced on 16 January and as many as 82,85,295 have been vaccinated in the country against Coronavirus.
The Health Ministry has approved two vaccines, COVAXIN by state-owned Bharat Biotech and Covishield by Serum Institute of India (SII), under Emergency Use Authorisation (EAU). Currently, the frontline workers are administered the vaccine in India and about 80-85 percent of them are vaccinated.
Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, on Monday, said that people above the age group of 50 will be administered COVID-19 vaccines by March.
Addressing a press conference on the same, he said that not a single pandemic case has been identified in 188 districts in the country over the past seven days.
He also indicated that over 18 coronavirus vaccines are likely to be accessible in the country in the coming few months. Vardhan expressed that pandemic crisis helped strengthen the country’s health potential as India turned a crisis into opportunity.
