The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Krishna River Management Board to comment on violations in the construction of the Rayalaseema Upliftment Project. Recently, the Chennai bench of the National Green Tribunal heard a petition filed by petitioner Gavinolla Srinivas alleging that construction work on the project was continuing in violation of the NGT judgment.
He argued that the AP government was deliberately violating the NGT directives. The tribunal noted that the AP government was seeking an adjournment for the fourth time on a court violation case. Additional Advocate General Ramchander Rao, counsel for the Telangana government, agreed with the petitioner’s contention that the Telangana Irrigation Department had also lodged a complaint with the Krishna River Management Board in December last year.
The Krishna River Management Board has been directed to give an explanation on the contempt case filed by Gavinolla Srinivas and the letter written by the Chief Secretary of the Telangana State Irrigation Department. The court adjourned the case till May 24.
