Oscar-winning actor Christopher Plummer, who rose to fame for his critically-acclaimed film ‘Sound of Music’, has breathed his last at the age of 91. He died Friday morning at his home in Connecticut, US with his wife, Elaine Taylor, by his side.
Over more than 50 years in the industry, Plummer played varied roles and entertained the audience globally.
He won two Best Actor Tony Awards, for the musical Cyrano and the play Barrymore, among seven career noms spanning 38 years. His most recent nominations were for ‘King Lear’ in 2004 and for playing Clarence Darrow in Inherit the Wind three years later.
Along with becoming the oldest person to win an Oscar, Plummer also won a pair of Emmys during a nearly 70-year career. He also won three Drama Desk Awards for Cyrano (1973), Othello (1982) and Barrymore.
