After the Rohingya Muslims’ issue became a controversy during the campaigning period of the GHMC polls, the Police focused on it just on the day before the polling would take place. The Police are investigating the voter ID’s before the Polling day as opposition party BJP alleged that the MIM and TRS government have enlisted the Rohingyas into the voter list for political benefits.
The Rohingyas are living in camps under the jurisdiction of the Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda Commissionerates in which the GHMC polls will be held tomorrow and the information is being collected from them by the officials. Recent investigations by special teams have revealed that there are hundreds of people who stay in the camps and do not enter the details in the biometric.
The Rohingyas will be issued the refugee identification cards by the UNHRC but those will be provided for those who are staying in the Balapur, Barkas and Pahadi Sharif camps. The superiors sent special teams to the field to identify the Rohingyas with fake Voter IDs. The BJP made it an issue by alleging that the ruling TRS party gave voter IDs to all of them for political advantage in the polls.
So far, several Rohingyas with illegal voter cards were identified and their voter cards confiscated. Still, the vigilant officials of the three commissionerates were tasked with identifying the persons with fake voter IDs and the authorities are gathering the persons with these voter cards.
