Chief Justice of India, NV Ramana, expressed deep dissatisfaction on the media today, after having shared the bench with Supreme Court Justice Naveen Sinha over a case. Sinha is retiring today, and on the occasion, during his speech, Ramana expressed his dissatisfaction.
This was over the fact that the media has been propagating news that the collegium of the SC has given a list of 9 new judges to be appointed in the SC very soon. However, that’s not the case, and the collegium is still in discussion about the same. Several media houses have even listed out the names of several judges and even went on to say that a woman judge would be stepping into the SC.
Ramana said that it is very unfortunate to see that the media can be so irresponsible, and thanked all the media houses and senior journalists who haven’t said anything on the topic. In reality, the SC collegium prepares a list of judges, sends it to the Centre for approval, and the Centre then sends it to the President of India.
