Retired IAS officer and former chief secretary Nilam Sawhney has taken charge as the new State Election Commissioner of Andhra Pradesh. The commission Secretary Kannababu and other officials congratulated Sawhney on her appointment as the new SEC.
As per reports, the AP government sent names of three retired IAS officers to Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan, and he appointed Nilam Sawhney as the SEC.
The tenure of Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar, who had been the AP State Election Commissioner till now, ended on March 31.
Nilam Sawhney, a 1984 batch IAS officer from the Andhra Pradesh cadre, was the first woman chief secretary in AP and now she will be the first woman SEC.
Meanwhile, there are speculations that the MPTC and ZPTC elections to be held soon in AP, and the schedule is likely to be released soon. However, with the ZPTC and MPTC election case still pending in the High Court, it is interesting to see what kind of decision the new SEC will take.
