The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has recently decided to connect the Khammam-Vijayawada Greenfield Expressway to the newly constructed Vijayawada Bypass (NH-16). As per reports, NHAI official Durga Prasad will soon come to Vijayawada to discuss with Collector Nivas regarding land acquisition in the district.
As the Greenfield Expressway is being developed parallel to the Khammam-Vijayawada Railway Line, it is hoped that if it is linked to the newly constructed Vijayawada Bypass at Jakkampudi, it will also be directly connected to NH-16, 65.
Mr Durga Prasad had earlier visited Vijayawada and met Joint Collector Maadhavi Latha regarding land acquisition. She responded positively, and the project is not moving forward since the pandemic.
Recently, the new Collector is said to be focusing on the Greenfield Expressway. The Khammam Project Director will meet the Collector soon and will forward all proposals of the project.
The Khammam-Vijayawada Expressway is an integral part of the Maharashtra-Telangana-Andhra Expressway Economic Corridor project. The 91 km long route is 61 km long in Khammam and covers 30 km in the Krishna district. Currently, the length of one kilometre will be reduced due to the need to connect to the Vijayawada Bypass near Jakkampudi. It covers an area of 29 km in the Krishna district.
