As scheduled before, the opposition party leaders from around 20 political parties, met in Delhi on Tuesday, to fight against the Election Commission.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, Praful Patel from Nationalist Congress Party, Bahujan Samaj Party’s Satish Chandra Misra, DMK’s Kanimozhi, AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal, CPI and CPM leaders D. Raja and Sitaram Yechury respectively, Manoj Jha from Rashtriya Janata Dal, Trinamool Congress’ Derek O’Brien and Samajwadi Party’s Ram Gopal Yadav were part of the meeting.
All the opposition leaders had raised their concerns over the EVMs and the use of VVPATs. They will later meet the EC to get a clarification on the same. Speaking to the media, Yechury questioned that how EC is going to take a decision, if there is a mismatch between the EVM and VVPAT.
“The Supreme Court has ruled that there should be five percent match between EVM and VVPAT. The question is that if there is a mismatch, what will the Election Commission do,” he said.
