Mythri Movie Makers spent more money on Vaishnav Tej’s ‘Uppena’ than the early budget estimates. This over expenditure is coming back to haunt them now as they are finding it hard to finalize an OTT deal for the film.
Amazon prime video is said to have made an okayish offer, but Mythri Movie Makers are not satisfied with the financial prospects. They feel that Amazon’s offer does not even cover their expenses let alone making profits. Apparently, OTT platforms are not making big offers for the film, given the fact that it features debutantes in lead roles.
On the other hand, waiting till theaters reopen does not seem to be an option, given the fact that theatres might not be functional at least till the end of the year. Even if theatres are re-opened anytime soon, we cannot expect substantial footfalls, given Covid-19 scare.
As a result, Mythri Movie Makers are sweating out for Vaishnav Tej’s film. The buzz around the project is fizzling out as there is no update on when the film would be released.
But it is said that the unit is satisfied with the way the film shaped up and feel it can perform well at the box office if it is given a theatrical release. So, they are willing to play the waiting game for now.
‘Uppena’ was directed by Buchibabu Sana. It has Vaishnav Tej and Krithi Shetty in the lead roles. Devi Sri Prasad’s songs got a good reception from cine enthusiasts.
