Mumbai Indians defended the IPL title and successfully won the trophy for the fifth time. With this feat, Mumbai became the most successful IPL team with five trophies in the kitty. They won the final against Delhi Capitals by five wickets while chasing a total of 156. Skipper Rohit Sharma (67) and Trent Boult (3/30) played a key role in Mumbai’s win. Shreyas Iyer (65) and Rishab Pant (56) did well for Delhi Capitals but their effort went in the vein in the end.
After winning the toss, Delhi Capitals chose to bat first. They got a disastrous start as Trent Boult dismissed Marcus Stoinis on the first ball of the innings. Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane also got out within no time. Then, Iyer and Pant did well for Delhi by making a partnership of 96 runs. In the process, both of them have also completed their respective half-centuries. By the end of 20 overs, Delhi managed to score 156/7.
Mumbai got a good start while chasing the total. Openers Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock have made a partnership of 45 runs for the first wicket. Then, Stoinis dismissed de Kock. Rohit then made a partnership of 45 runs with Surya Kumar Yadav. Soon, Rohit also completed his half-century. When Mumbai was close to the win, Rohit got out. Pollard and Hardik Pandya came and went within no time. Finally, Ishan Kishan completed the formalities for Mumbai and helped his team in reaching 157/5 in 18.4 overs.
