Chennai Super Kings continues its flop show in this edition of IPL. This time, they faced a humiliating defeat against Mumbai Indians by 10 wickets. Mumbai chased the target of 115 in just 12.2 overs and got a mammoth win on CSK. It was Trent Boult (4/18), Jasprit Bumrah (2/25) and Rahul Chahar (2/22) who broke the batting lineup of CSK into pieces. Barring Sam Curran (52), no one played well for Chennai. Mumbai’s openers Ishan Kishan (68*) and Quinton de Kock (46*) completed the target with ease.
Rohit was benched in this match due to an injury. Kieron Pollard came in as Mumbai’s captain. He won the toss and elected to bat first. Mumbai got a dream start as Ruturaj Gaikwad got out in the first over, Rayudu and Jagadeesan were dismissed in the second over, du Plessis in the third over, Jadeja in the sixth over, Dhoni in the seventh over and Deepak Chahar in the ninth over. At one point, Chennai’s score was 43/7. Then Sam Curran made valuable partnerships with Shardul Thakur and Imran Tahir and gave a low but decent total of 114/9 in 20 overs.
Mumbai’s openers de Kock and Kishan started hitting right from the first over and have put Chennai’s bowlers in trouble. Chennai gave up within the first few overs. They scored with a run rate of more than nine and made a total of 116/0 in just 12.2 overs. Kishan also completed his half-century in the game. With this loss. CSK is almost out of the playoff race.
