The state government’s recently launched free water scheme faces tribulation. About 30,000 people have been facing issues over the fixing of water meters.
GHMC and the urban development department mandated that all the people whose usage is up to 20,000 litres ought to fix water meters and link their Aadhar Card to their consumer account number.
However, the problem has apparently triggered simultaneously at more than 50 residential welfare associations (RWA) in the Malkajgiri GHMC circle with the city’s Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (MWS & SB). They unanimously condemned the free water scheme initiative by CM KCR led government.
Earlier government promised Malkajgiri water supply scheme in 2018 so that 3.8 lakh residents’ demands of water supply would be met. HMWS and SB also proposed the installation of special water meters to be build with RFID technology. All though 25000 water meters were given as per the tender proposal, the fixation and authorisation for consumption has been deferred and been involved with many litigations so far.
The problem arised when municipal department ordained the residents to fix water meters and link Aadhar all by themselves at their own expenditure. The welfare association members raised concerns that they had waited for nearly four years for the scheme but it only ended up a damp squib.
