Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Thursday notified that the state is facing scarcity with just 26,000 Remdesivir injections per day by the Centre as opposed to the requirement of 50,000 vials of the anti-COVID-19 medicine.
While Interacting with the press, Tope said he will write to the Centre to improve the allocation of Remdesivir to Maharashtra. The state government’s daily requirement is 50,000 Remdesivir injections, but the Centre’s provision is 26,000 injections per day. This is for the next 10 days, which is tad serious as timely use of the injections to treat co- morbid and serious COVID-19 patients can save lives,’ he said.
Remdesivir is facilitated for use in critical COVID-19 patients. Nonetheless, it is learnt that many people with mild symptoms and the asymptomatic one’s availed the medicine from pharma stores and other local distributors due to which the hospitalised patients in real need are unable to get it. This consequently increased the demand of the drug due to the surge in COVID-19 cases and recently the Centre banned its export until the grim situation gets better.
A couple of days ago, Tope said that he has appealed the union ministry to increase the supply. Now it is learnt that Maha has allocated 50 PC of Remedesivir’s daily requirement and is likely to begin supply this week without hassles.
