It is known that the Centre has directed the state governments to initiate containment measures in districts where cases of Delta Plus variant have been found.
Now, Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday reported its first Covid-19 death linked to the Delta Plus variant of Covid-19. Genome sequencing of samples taken from a dead Covid patient revealed that she had contracted the Delta Plus variant of Covid.
Five cases of total Delta Plus variant infection have been reported so far in the state. Three cases were reported in Bhopal and two in Ujjain. Four of them recovered from the virus. Doctors confirmed that one of them had died. Authorities were alerted in the wake of the Delta Plus variant. Contact tracing has been started to identify those infected with this variant.
So far, over 40 Delta Plus variant cases have come to light in the country, the Union Health Ministry said yesterday. Maharashtra has the highest number of 21 cases. The virus has spread to Kerala, Jammu and Kashmir and other states.
