Sudheer Babu is an actor that never fails to entertain the audiences with new scripts, and experimental films. He has now come up with Mama Mascheendra, which has been directed by popular actor Harshavardhan. Let us see how the film has turned out to be upon release.
Story:
Parasuram marries his uncle’s daughter in order to get back the property that his uncle took away from him when he was a kid. Several years later, Parasuram becomes suspicious of the motives of his nephews, who are in love with his daughters. They look exactly like him, which raises his suspicions. Things take a different turn when a murder attempt is made on Parasuram, which then leads to several other developments. Who wants to kill Parasuram and what happens in the end forms the rest of the story.
On-Screen Performances:
Sudheer Babu can be seen in three shades in the film, and while he seems to do his best when it comes to differentiating between the three with his slang and mannerisms. However, in the older getup, Sudheer falls flat, unable to properly perform, maybe because of the makeup, or the way the story has been written. Nevertheless, Sudheer Babu gives his best, but despite that, it doesn’t help much.
Eesha Rebba and Mirnalini Ravi are the leading ladies of this film, and while they get a decent amount of screen time, nothing that they do is impactful, due to the way their characters are written.
The rest of the supporting cast, including Rajeev Kanakala, Ajay, Ali Reza, and others do alright in their roles, in the scope they have been given.
Off-Screen Talents:
Writer and director Harshavardhan seems to have lost grip on what he wanted to convey through his film early on, because none of his characters possess any real emotion or depth, and the entire film is told in a very confusing manner. He seems to have wanted to go with an interesting screenplay, but it fell flat, leading to a messy film that does not make a lot of sense. A lot of the twists and turns are predictable, but the way they have been handled is poor, which adds to the many faults of the movie. Another major flaw of the movie is the pacing, which is all over the place.
The background music is okay and doesn’t really help the film in any manner. The cinematography is good enough, but it is the editing that is not up to the mark at all. The production values are good.
Plus Points:
- Sudheer Babu
Minus Points:
- Screenplay
- Pacing
- Weak emotions
Verdict: Mama Mascheendra is a film that has a lot of scope, but it has been lost in translation. It is a film that is easily forgotten once you step out of the theatre, which makes it a film that can be easily skipped.
