Pele, the Brazil footballing legend, passed away at the age of 82 recently. His daughter revealed the tragic news on Instagram on Thursday.
Pele, whose given name was Edson Arantes do Nascimento, is the only soccer player ever to win the World Cup three times. He also had a world record on his name by scoring 1,281 goals in his career.
Pele is one of the greatest and most renowned athletes in modern history. Born on October 23, 1940, in the small Minas Gerais town of Tres Corações, the veteran footballer was dubbed as the first global superstar of the game. He won three World Cups, in 1958, 1962, and 1970.
As per reports, Pele had been hospitalised since November with multiple ailments. Following his demise, tributes have begun to pour in from the sports fraternity and the world.
