Till now, there has been no regulatory oversight or censorship on OTT content but that might be changing very soon. The latest statement from the I&B minister, Anurag Thakur clearly implies the same.
“Abusing & rudeness in the name of creativity cannot be tolerated. The government is serious about the raising complaints of increase in obscene content on OTT platforms.
If there is a need to make any changes in the rules regarding, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting will not back down in that direction as well. Strict action will be taken to stop obscenity and abuse on OTT platforms,” the union minister stated.
From here on, the central government will reportedly keep track of the content on OTT and if found obscene, there might be stern action against the same. But there’s no update on when the timeline for the new censorship will be locked.
