IPL 2020: KXIP Vs RCB match analysis: KL Rahul’s Century Helps Punjab Win Against RCB

KL Rahul’s blistering ton (132*) helped Kings XI Punjab open their points tally in IPL 2020. Rahul now has the highest individual score for any Indian batsman in IPL. The opponent Royal Challengers Bangalore failed to chase a total of 207 and lost the match by 97 runs.

RCB’s skipper Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to bowl. Punjab got a good start from its openers KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal. They made 57 runs partnership for the first wicket. It was RCB’s trump card Yuzvendra Chahal who finally removed Mayank. Then, Nicholas Pooran came in and gave a good partnership to Rahul. He then got dismissed in Shivam Dube’s bowling. Maxwell entered the crease and got out in no time. It was Karun Nair who then managed to stay and give the strike to Rahul. The Punjab skipper played carefully until the 16th over of the innings. He went berserk in the last four overs. With his monstrous hitting, KXIP managed to score 74 runs in the last four overs. In the end, their score was 206/3.

Considering RCB’s batting lineup, 207 was not a big total to chase. But as usual, the Bangalore team fumbled in chasing it. Opener Devdutt Paddikal, who scored a fifty in the first match, got out in the very first over. RCB lost Josh Phiippe in the second over. Skipper Virat Kohli was dismissed in the third over. After three overs RCB’s score was 5-3. The responsibility then fell on the shoulders of Aaron Finch and AB de Villiers. They looked well for a few overs. Then, Ravi Bishnoi sent back Finch in the eighth over. In the very next over, Murugan Ashwin dismissed de Villiers. After losing five wickets, RCB’s big loss was on cards. In the end, they managed to score only 109 and got all-out in 17 overs. Murugan Ashwin and Ravi Bishnoi picked up three wickets each. Sheldon Cottrell picked up two wickets.

Scorecard:

Kings XI Punjab: 206/3 (KL Rahul 132*, Mayank Agarwal 26, S Dube 2/33)

Royal Challengers Bangalore: 109/10 (W Sundar 30, AB de Villiers 28, M. Ashwin 3/21)
