A sensational batting effort from Rohit Sharma (70), Kieron Pollard (47*), Hardik Pandya (30*) and a superb bowling effort from Bumrah, James Pattinson, Krunal Pandya and Rahul Chahar ensured Mumbai a win tonight against Kings XI Punjab by 48 runs. Poor bowling in the death and fallout of the middle-order had cost Punjab in this game.
Kings XI Punjab won the toss and elected to bowl first. Their decision turned out to be a good one as Sheldon Cottrell scalped the wicket of Quinton de Kock in the first over. Even Surya Kumar Yadav fell inside the powerplay. Later, last match’s hero Ishan Kishan made a 50 plus runs partnership with Rohit Sharma and settled the innings. Krishnappa Gowtham dismissed him in the 14th over. Soon, Rohit completed his half-century and shifted the gears. When he looked dangerous, Shami removed him. But Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya stayed till the end and made sure that their team reaches a big total of 191/4.
Kings XI Punjab just failed to get going while chasing this humongous total. Their opener Mayank Agarwal got out in the fifth over. In the very next over, Krunal Pandya bowled Karun Nair. Within no time, Rahul Chahar dismissed in-form KL Rahul. After that, Nicholas Pooran played a good innnings and scored 44 runs in 27 balls. But he was dismissed by Pattinson in the 14th over. Even big hitters Glenn Maxwell and Jimmy Neesham got out without scoring big runs. Eventually, Punjab ended their painful innings by scoring 148/8.
