IPL 2020: KXIP Vs MI match analysis: Punjab Beats Mumbai in the Double Super-Over Thriller

What a day we have witnessed in IPL 2020. For the first time in the history of this league, we have seen three super overs on a single day. While SRH and KKR played a super over earlier today, it was Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab who played a decider about a while ago and this match had two super overs. Punjab scored five runs in the super over while Mumbai also scored the same total in the first super over. In the second super over, Mumbai scored 11 runs. Punjab chased the target in four balls and won the game in style. Chris Gayle and Mayank Agarwal have done the job for Punjab. Meanwhile, KL Rahul (77) almost won the match for Punjab but again got out a bit early before finishing the things off. Jasprit Bumrah impressed with his bowling figures of 3/24.

Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first. As an opener, he failed once again and got dismissed in the third over. In the very next over, Mumbai lost Surya Kumar Yadav. In the sixth over, Ishan Kishan got out as well. At one point, Mumbai’s score was 38/3. Then, Quinton de Kock and Krunal Pandya made a partnership of 58 runs and settled the innings of their team. Krunal was dismissed in 14th over. Hardik Pandya came and went in the 15th over itself. In the very next over, de Kock got out as well. Pollard and Coulter-Nile played a quickfire innings in the backend and gave Mumbai a high score of 176/6 in 20 overs.

Punjab got a decent opening partnership of 33 runs from KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal. When Mayank got out, Chris Gayle gave good support to Rahul. Gayle then got dismissed in the 10th over. After that, Nicholas Pooran played a little cameo and went back to the dug-out in the 13th over. Glenn Maxwell pushed Punjab into trouble by getting out for a duck. Rahul took the job of giving his team a victory and played extremely well. He also completed his half-century and looked to finish the job. That’s when Bumrah bowled him in the 18th over and turned the match towards Mumbai once again. In the final over, Punjab needed 9 runs to win and they have managed to score 8. Thus, they ended their innings with a score of 176/6.

Scorecard:

Mumbai Indians: 176/6 (de Kock 53, K Pollard 34*, M Shami 2/30)

Kings XI Punjab: 176/6 (KL Rahul 77, N Pooran 24, J Bumrah 3/24)
