IPL 2020: KKR Vs SRH match analysis: Lockie Ferguson Gives a Super Over Victory for KKR

We have just seen the third super over match in IPL 2020. This time, it was between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders. Though they fought till the end, Sunrisers couldn’t cross the target and ended the match in a tie. Lockie Ferguson’s spectacular spell (3/15) won it for KKR. He was the true superstar of this match. In the end, David Warner’s (47*) tough fight ended up in vain. With this failure, SRH further complicated their chances of qualifying into playoffs.

After winning the toss, David Warner elected to bowl first. KKR used on this opportunity as openers Shubman Gill and Rahul Tripathi have a solid start. They made 48 runs partnership for the first wicket. Finally, Natarajan broke this partnership by taking the wicket of Tripathi. Then, Gill and Nitish Rana played well for a while. However, they failed to make it a big partnership as Gill got out in the 12th over. In the very next over, Rana also got out as well. Andre Russell also got dismissed without any making any impact. When they were in trouble, both Eoin Morgan and Dinesh Karthik played a sensational game. Their 58-run stand helped KKR to score 163/5 in 20 overs.

Sunrisers came up with a new opening combination this time. Jonny Bairstow and Kane Williamson gave a scintillating start to SRH by scoring 57 runs in six overs. Right after the powerplay, Williamson got out. Within no time, Bairstow, Priyam Garg and Manish Pandey also went back to pavilion. Just in a matter of time, SRH’s score was 87/4. Even Vijay Shankar got out very soon. Then, Abdul Samad and David Warner brought back Sunrisers into the game. When they needed 17 off the last over, Sunrisers scored 16 and raised the curtains for a super over.

In Super Over, Lockie Ferguson bowled out Warner and Samad in the first three balls. Thus, SRH managed to score only two runs. KKR batsmen Eoin Morgan and Dinesh Karthik closed the game by scoring three runs in four balls.

Scoreboard:

Kolkata Knight Riders: 163/5 (S Gill 36, E Morgan 34, T Natarajan 2/40)

Sunrisers Hyderabad: 163/6 (D Warner 47*, J Bairstow 36, L Ferguson 3/15)
