Telangana State Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has written a letter a to the Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, addressing the position of all the states in the country, and how they have been hit economically because the Center has not been paying its GST dues to the states since April 2020.
KCR said that all the states had agreed for the introduction of GST, by cancelling CST, despite knowing that it would greatly affect the economy of a state. This was because they had all kept the long term interest of the country as a whole in mind. KCR has now said that the government is not living up to what was written in the GST Act, where it was mentioned that the states would be compensated bi-lateraly in a month, the loss they would incur because of GST.
With the Center not having paid these dues since April 2020, KCR has now said that it is imperative for the Center to do so immediately, and that it is not fair for the Center to ask the states to borrow money from somewhere else. KCR also stated that every state has taken a major economic hit during the pandemic, but that the expenditure has also increased greatly, because the states are having to fight the pandemic by benong on the frontlines.
It has also been stated that the states need more revenue right now, than the Center, and that it is imperative for the Center to hand out these dues at the earliest, so that the states will be relieved financially, and be able to make the country stronger, because stronger states mean a stronger country.
