The Rayalaseema lift irrigation project again made its way to the news as the Telangana Hugh Court gave its decision in a petition filed by the KCR government. The counsel for the petitioners asked the court to look into the disputes under the AP re-partition act.
However, the Telangana High court asked the Government to take the issue to the Supreme Court as it is the matter that involved two states. They mentioned an instance in the past where Punjab’s river water were diverted to Rajasthan on the involvement of the Supreme Court. Of course, KCR’s government argues that construction of this project incurs a huge loss to the people in Southern Telangana.
On the other side, YS Jagan’s government argues that they are taking their rightful share of water from Krishna River. Telangana is arguing that Andhra Pradesh will lift an additional 40,000 cusecs of water through the Rayalaseema levees. The AP argues that this is not a new scheme and that the water coming from the Potireddypadu Head Regulator will be used without any violation of the rules.
Coming to the corresponding authorities, The Krishna River Ownership Board also intervened in this matter. The Center has reported to the National Green Tribunal that environmental permits are not required in support of the AP.
