A major setback for New Zealand ahead of the second Test against England. Team captain Kane Williamson has suffered an injury to his left elbow in the first Test. The medical team is monitoring him.
The team will make a decision on his availability in the second Test against England on Wednesday evening. Notably, spinner Mitchell Santner has already been ruled out with a fracture in his left index finger.
Coach Gary Stead said left-arm pacer Trent Boult is available for the team and likely to return. One of the pacers who played the first Test is said to be resting.
“Pace bowlers from Lord’s won’t all play 2nd Test. Trent Boult available & likely to return. Mitch Santner ruled out with his cut left index finger. Kane Williamson’s left elbow injury being monitored & a decision to be made tomorrow.” the official handle tweeted.
New Zealand will play in the final of the prestigious ICC Test Championship after the second Test against England. Virat Kohli led Team India will face New Zealand in Southampton from June 18. The Kiwis want Williamson to recover quickly as the team needs the skipper to win the final.
