England fast bowler James Anderson is likely to miss the fourth Test between England and India at the Oval on September 2. Anderson, 39, has bowled 116.3 overs in three Tests so far in the series. He is likely to rest for the fourth Test to ease the pressure on him.
“What I don’t want to do is break them. We’ve got a lot of cricket in front of us. The Tests are coming thick and fast now. Back-to-back, it is difficult,” said England head coach Chris Silverwood while pointing out the workload of his two new-ball bowlers, Anderson and Ollie Robinson.
“These two players are giving everything, every day when we are out on the field and we have got to make certain we are looking after them. But I won’t be deciding or judgments right now,” he added.
With the last Test to be played at James Anderson’s home ground at Old Trafford in Manchester, the England team management will probably play him there rather than at The Oval. Silverwood said it is difficult to convince Anderson to miss the fourth Test.
