Even over a month after forming the government in the state, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has still not given any clarity on his government’s take on the construction of the capital city.
It was recently in the news that Jagan is planning to make Amaravati only as an operational capital by limiting it to construct only the government-related buildings and quarters to MLAs and other leaders. Now, the reports are rife that Jagan is planning to shift his focus from Amaravati to Donakonda.
As Donakonda has a huge chunk of government lands, Jagan is considering it as a perfect place to turn it into an industrial hub. Several YSRCP leaders also bought the lands in and around Donakonda, hinting that the state government is betting big on it.

In the past, even Sivaramakrishnan Committee has suggested Donakonda as the capital region of AP, but the then CM Chandrababu Naidu refused the proposal and picked Amaravati, for his own reasons. But he still signed MOU for setting up of three projects- Titan Group’s aviation industry, food park and an automobile industry, at Donakonda.
Jagan is now planning to take the move forward and develop Donakonda as a major hub of industries. While the proposal would develop the region and the farmers in Amaravati would get back their lands, it would also be a jolt to Naidu, as the proposal will completely erase Naidu’s mark of development in Amaravati in the last five years.
