It is already a known fact that the maverick director Mani Ratnam is currently busy with the period drama Ponniyin Selvan, which is based on the epic Tamil novel of the same name. The shoot of this film will kickstart in Thailand by October end or in early November.
If the latest reports are to be believed, Mani offered a pivotal role for Anushka in this multistarrer film. A source close to the unit said that Sweety was interested in doing it but she opted out of the project in the last minute when she realized that writer Vairamuthu is also working for the film.
The actual reason why Sweety rejected the film is said to be due to Vairamuthu, who Chinmayi alleged of sexual abuse. Though she has not spoken about #MeToo movement in public, she decided to support it in her own way, by not accepting a film that has the accused person on board.
There are many speculations that remuneration issue is also a reason for Anushka Shetty rejecting Ponniyin Selvan. However, the real reason behind Anushka’s walkout is yet to be revealed.
On the other hand, Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Mohan Babu, Aishwarya Rai, Keerthy Suresh and Amala Paul are playing the lead roles in Ponniyin Selvan, which is directed by Mani Ratnam and produced by Lyca Productions.
