After taking the lead 2-1 against England in a four test match series, India has shown its dominance on the first day of the 5th test at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Winning the toss, the visitors elected to bat, but failed to put a fighting total in front of the hosts.
Indian bowlers restricted Englishmen to a total of 205 runs in their first innings. England batsmen Ben Stokes’ 55 and Dan Lawrence’s 46 helped the visitor move past 200. England had a bad start, losing quick wickets.
Axar Patel was in excellent form once again, taking four wickets. Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin grabbed three wickets. Also, Mohammed Siraj dismissed two while Washington Sundar got the key wicket of Stokes.
Despite losing an early wicket of Shubman Gill, the hosts are hoping to build a solid partnership on Day 2. Meanwhile, the opposition side will be aiming for quick wickets.
