The Day 2 of 1st Test between India and England ended with the first batting team reaching a comfortable 555/8. England skipper Joe Root slammed his second century in his 100th Test match and led the team from the front to dominate the Men in Blue on Day 2.
After reaching 263/3 on Day 1, the England batsmen Joe Root and Ben Stokes started the Day 2 and built a strong partnership between them. After scoring 82, Ben Stokes departed on his 118th ball. A scintillating inning from Joe Root ends on 218 as Nadeem traps him in front of the wickets.
However, Ollie Pope and Jos Buttler contributed their part to the team with 34 and 30 runs respectively. Jofra Archer departed without scoring a run. And, Dominic Bess and Jack Leach have added 25 runs for the ninth wicket partnership and stood on the field for the third day.
Despite the departure of Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Ollie Pope and Jos Buttler, England are still in a dominating position against India. Notably, Joe Root has become the first batsmen to score a double hundred on the 100th Test match. His knock also consisted of 19 fours and two sixes.
