India began its journey in the T20 World Cup with a magnificent win against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Batting first, after losing the toss, Pakistan scored 159 in 20 overs for the fall of 8 wickets. India were in trouble throughout the chase of 160, but Virat Kohli played an anchor role with an unbeaten knock of 82. It is indeed one of the most memorable innings in the history of the T20 World Cup.
In the last 5 overs, Team India needed 60 runs to win. By the last two overs, the Men in Blue needed 31 runs. In the 19th over of the innings bowled by Haris Rauf, only 3 runs came from the first 4 balls. But Virat Kohli, who hit a six off the fifth ball, also dropped the last ball outside the pavilion. India needed 16 runs in the last over to win. The last over was quite thrilling, with the loss of two wickets – Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik. The match inched up to the last ball of the Indian innings, where Ravichandran Ashwin ended the match with a four in the last ball.
