On August 8, Sanjay Dutt was rushed to the Lilavati hospital suspecting covid-19 owing to the breathlessness. Although the results were negative, what came as a shock to Sanjay’s fans is that he was diagnosed by lung cancer.
It was revealed that the actor had developed fourth stage of lung cancer. The whole tribulation was accounted with more insights to a media channel by a staff member. It is learnt that upon admitting him in the hospital, the diagnosis of lungs was conducted where it was evident that the air entry was blocked in his right lung. Soon the doctors suggested Sanjay to undergo a computed tomography (CT) and positron emission tomography (PET) scan. A CT scan further revealed that there was increased fluid accumulation in his right lung (pleural effusion) along with two lesions, one on each lung, which is when Sanjay dutt got to know about the deadly cancer.
Doctors informed initially to Sanjay that it could be a bacterial infection called tuberculosis, which triggered as an adverse effect of strenuous exercise or cancer. The fluid volume was 1.5 litres and was later evacuated. After that a 2-day hospitalisation was recommended to the 61 year old actor. The histopathology department revealed that the fluid had manifested cancer cells and confirmed lung cancer.
The doctors revealed that no surgery is possible and finally opted for chemotherapy as a last resort. Sanjay took a sabbatical and flew to US for the chemotherapy sessions scheduled in multiple cycles.
