The Andhra Pradesh High Court has not been holding back its opinions on the appointment and eligibility of Nilam Sawhney as the State Election Commissioner of Andhra Pradesh. Just yesterday, on May 21st, the HC made shocking comments on the SEC, and today, the HC sent notices to the Andhra Pradesh government on the appointment of Sawhney as the SEC of AP.
A person named Regu Mahesh filed a petition in the High Court, against the appointment of Sawhney as the SEC, by the AP government, calling it unconstitutional and a violation of the Supreme Court orders. The HC admitted this petition and even heard the arguments on the petition today. In relation to this petition, the HC sent notices to the AP government.
Opposition parties have been expressing their displeasure over the appointment of Sawhney as the SEC, and even the Judges of the HC have been expressing their opinions freely. The HC judges called out and criticised the way the SEC reacted to the Supreme Court’s orders, and how she twisted the SC’s orders in their favour, essentially changing the whole meaning of the SC’s orders.
The HC asked the AP government to submit its reply to the petition filed by Ramesh, who requested for the immediate removal of Sawhney as the SEC.
